Clan Structure

Overview

The proper short name of the clan is "USCMC Clan", not "Clan USCMC". That should be kept in mind when entering our name in other lists. When the "Clan" part is obvious, you should use "US Colonial Marine Corps" as the full title. The official abbreviation for the clan is "USCM", not "USCMC", in line with the tag we use in battle.

The clan is targeted towards those who have an appreciation for both Aliens, the movie, and Quake in general. It is meant to be a no-nonsense clan, fun and competitive. It requires participation from its members, from now on referred to as marines.

At this time, USCM is here to play Quake in an organized fashion. Any flavor of Quake will be supported as long as there's sufficient interest from the members. There's a separate division for each "flavor", such as Deathmatch, CTF etc. Each division is divided into a number of Battalions, not fewer than 8, not more than 16 in number. Each battalion plays and practices together.

In charge of the clan are the brass (generals & colonels). They are the founders of the clan and ultimately responsible with keeping the clan going and assigning Division and Battalion leaders. They consult and decide in unison in critical matters and their word is final. All organizational changes and promotions must be approved by the brass before they are final. Attaining general rank requires long years of service to the Corps.

Divisions

At the time of last update, the divisions are:
  1. Quake Deathmatch (division name : Roughnecks)
  2. Quake Capture The Flag (division name: Bugstompers)
  3. Quake TeamFortress (division name: Hivewarriors)
  4. Quake 2 Deathmatch (division name: Heavy Metal)
  5. Quake 2 CTF (division name: Bug Stompers 2)
You can belong to more than one division, but you'll be expected to show up to the practices and matches of all divisions you belong to. Do not overcommit yourself. Think about divisions as "mini-clans". However, it must be noted that player statistics such as rank are consistent across divisions.

Each division has an assigned Division Leader that all Battalion Leaders must respond to. Division Leaders are, without exception, high ranking officers. Division Leader's responsibilities include:

  1. Make sure Battalion leader's are performing their duties.
  2. Maintain communications inside the division via regular email updates to the members of the division.
  3. Assist in scheduling and organization.
  4. Resolve any conflicts battalion leaders cannot resolve.

Battalions

Inside each division, another grouping system (called Battalions) are used. Each player is assigned a Battalion to report to. Battalions will practice together during their set division practice time (e.g. if the assigned practice time for the division is 8pm, the first Battalion will practice on a server at 8pm, while the second Battalion will practice on another server at the same time).

You MAY not leave a Battalion ot be with another of the same division without prior consent from the Battalion leader or the division leader. We try to keep this as organized as possible. This does not apply to grouping up with other marines during NON practice time to kick a little butt. This only applies to practice times so we can keep up with attendance.

Each Battalion has a leader, usually at least a sergeant. This leader is responsible for the following:

  1. Be able to communicate with the others in your Battalion and get their moral high enough for them to listen to you... and do what you say. The Battalion leader speaks for the team and commands the team in battle & practice, period.
  2. Start up an icq chat, get all of the members of you Battalion in there, and start up a practice or the match without a senior officer in there to get it started for you. In short, organize action.
  3. Take attendance and report it to both the division leader and Major Hudson via email (don't use ICQ). If you notice a marine missing for more than two subsequent weeks, or any major headaches caused by players under your command, you MUST report it ASAP. If you notice exceptional performance from one of the marines, that should also be reported in.
  4. Assist the new members of the Battalion and break them in quick. They will need help. provide it.
Remember, as a Battalion leader, you are in charge of the practice, nd you tell them the way it is. You, yourself, must be able to show up for practice. It is also perfectly ok to have a backup commander. If you know you will be out a weekend, set aside someone responsible to take your place and get things going.

Here's a summary of job descriptions for commanding officers:

Player Regulations

Gear UP!

It is important for players to be prepared and ready for combat. First of all, you must, in general, meet the requirements listed on the Enlist page. More specifically, you must have the following in order to play:
  1. Easy access with a decent ping - You must be able to access a computer without much trouble and have a decent ping to at least our own servers. Poor connections will cause grievance for both you and the clan.
  2. ICQ - this is our communications device. Don't have it, don't play
  3. Gamespy or Pingtool - necessary in order to play. Period.
  4. QuakeWorld or Quake 2 - as applies to your division.
  5. The proper skin must be worn during practice/matches in divisions where custom skins are allowed
  6. You must have properly configured Quake, the controls, the keyboard, the communication scripts etc. You must have [USCM] before your nickname and team name of USCM when playing.

Obligations

As a member of this clan, you must be able to show up to at least ONE of the two practices held weekly for your division. A player is allowed two un-excused absences, but after that, you must tell your battalion leader ahead of time if you will be a no-show and with an excuse. If you do not notify your battalion leader, you will have used both of your absences. You need to set time aside to join in for just an hour a weekend with us. Every little bit helps.

Your other obligations are to demonstrate proper practice and match behaviour as outlined below:

Practice and Match Behaviour

When in a meeting for a match or a practice, please be attentive. Remain silent and wait until you get a server name to go to. It is very annoying when players scroll a screen and become very immature. Listen to the battalion leader and do what he says. Disobeying/ignoring your battalion leader is a no-no. Also, you DO NOT bring in girlfriends of other non-USCM related people into chats, unless they want to join the clan or are invited by the Battalion leader or the brass.

When in practices, anything goes. You can curse, and such, but whatever you do, don't become a loser and ignore your fellow marines or your Battalion leader. At all costs, avoid immature fighting or boasting with non-members, because it makes USCM look immature, and puts your teammates in an awkward position. NO WHINING! If your ping is high, notify your Battalion leader via teamsay, don't go about whining about it. If friendly fire is on, and you are not supposed to kill teammates, please try not to.

When in matches, again, NO WHINING! You are there to kick ass, not waste time talking all the time. Just get the job done. If you suspect foul play, notify your commander, and tell him. He is the one to take action, not you.

Observe proper division tactics and do not depart from team discipline. This is not one-on-one, you should ensure the clan wins, not you.

Once again, when custom skins are allowed, do NOT wear a skin that is not yours. You must wear your assigned USCM Marine skin.

Penalties

Penalties will be issued for violating any of the above, and could result in:
  1. Verbal warning (by Battalion commander)
  2. Written warning (by Battalion Leader or Division Leader)
  3. Prohibition from playing in matches (by Division Leader - can be requested by the Battalion Leader)
  4. Demotion in rank (by the brass - can be requested by Division Leader)
  5. Booted out of division (by the brass - can be requested by Division Leader)
  6. Booted out of clan. (by the brass)
..usually in that order. The commanders are NOT required to issue warnings before taking more serious action.

Practices and Matches

Practices

There will be at least two practices held every weekend. Additional practices may be setup by the division leader as long as they don't conflict with other divisions. You must be able to show up for at least one of the weekend practices. They are usually held Saturday and Sunday nights, but a Friday practice might not be out of the question. Players must be in the correct practice battalion during practices. Check your Division page for the practice schedule.

Unless specified otherwise, practices will be held on our own servers. If that's not possible, PingTool will be used to find servers with good pings for everyone on the Battalion.

Practices either take the form of tactical training, or friendly in-clan battles. Division leaders and Battalion leaders will together decide what form the practice will take prior to practice time.

Matches

Matches will be scheduled by the Division Leaders and the brass. Each division have their own set of match rules, and every league or tournament participated in will also have their own rules. For standard guidelines, see the Fight section on our site.

The Division Leader will determine the final rosters for the match. The preliminary roster will be announced on the division roster and those who can be at the match will let the Division Leader know ASAP. Then the Division Leader will post the final roster.

Rosters will be determined by rank and cycling - the top few positions will usually consist of the top four ranking officers as long as they are available and the rest will consist of lower ranks, which will be cycled every match to let everyone play.

Ranking System

Rank Layout

Here is the rank layout:
  1. Cadet (cannot participate in clan Matches without approval from Division Leader, Battalion Leader, and the brass)
  2. Private
  3. Private First Class (PFC)
  4. Lance Corporal
  5. Corporal

  6. Sergeant (minimum rank required for Battalion leaders)
  7. Master Sergeant

  8. Warrant Officer (minimum rank required for division leaders)
  9. 2nd Lieutenant
  10. 1st Lieutenant
  11. Captain (highest rank without organizational responsibilities beyond Battalion leader)

  12. Major (highest rank subject to regular obligations)

  13. Colonel (minimum rank for upper clan command)
  14. General (highest clan rank)
Lacking a proper Battalion leader or a division leader during gameplay, rank should be observed.

How to Proceed in Rank

Proceeding in ranks isn't hard, it just requires dedication and improvement. By being at practices every weekend, and improving our skills, and doing very good in matches, your rank will soar. By disrespecting officers, violating regulations never showing up, or never improving, you rank will stay constant or drop.

Trooper Productivity Let me get to a quick point on this: If you can do graphics, skins, models, maps, or would like to help in recruiting, web design, etc.. LET US KNOW! We need helpers like you to help this clan out! It also helps improve your rank in here!

Remember that dedication is all it takes.
